Schedule Nervousness Reduction in Transport Re-Planning

چکیده
This article reports about investigations on a transport scheduling scenario. The generated schedule requires a repeated revision in order to incorporate additionally released requests. Neither the release time nor the location of the associated customer site can be forecasted. Special attention is paid to keep the generated schedules stable, which means that once made scheduling decisions should be maintained (announced arrival times at customer sites, etc.) Initially, several measures for the nervousness degree are proposed. In computational simulations it turns out that a very high nervousness degree appears if the same schedule update strategies are applied for different workloads. As a remedy, the adaptation of the used schedule update strategy to the current schedule performance is proposed. A prototypic algorithm framework is presented and assessed is comprehensive numerical simulation experiments. The adaptation of the schedule update strategies contributes to a significant reduction of some observed nervousness degrees. It reinforces the preservation of once fixed arrival times at customer sites.

Schedule Nervousness in Production Operations of an Airline Catering Company: The Challenge of an Effective Demand Response Program
Demand Response (DR), also known as electric load-shifting program, is a different way of shaping energy demand with the goal to reduce electricity costs for an organization. Extensive prior research studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of the action of DR through the use of operations research methodology e.g. efficient production scheduling. In the real world, schedulers typically issu...
متن کاملCooperative Supply Chain Re-scheduling: The Case of an Engine Supply Chain
One of the main issues on task planning of the enterprises with several production sites is how they can reassign tasks when a part of the supply chain is stopped. In this case, a good re-schedule, involving parts from supply chains from other sites, could imply to reduce overall costs. In this paper, we propose a cooperative system to re-schedule a network chain. The algorithm proposed is desc...
متن کاملRe-scheduling in railways: the Rolling Stock Balancing Problem
This paper addresses the Rolling Stock Balancing Problem (RSBP). This problem arises at a passenger railway operator when the rolling stock has to be re-scheduled due to changing circumstances. These problems arise both in the planning process and during operations. The RSBP has as input a timetable and a rolling stock schedule where the allocation of the rolling stock among the stations does n...
متن کاملMulti-Agent Transport Planning
We discuss a distributed transport planning problem with competitive autonomous actors that carry out time-constrained pick-up delivery orders from customers. The agents have to find conflict-free routes to execute a series of orders they have accepted. Hatzack and Nebel [2] were the first to suggest that finding such a conflict-free schedule can be reduced to solving a job shop scheduling prob...
متن کاملA Repair-based Approach for Reactive Scheduling in Job Shop Environment
An important practical problem in real world schedule execution is the occurrence of unforeseen events. When any changes in a production environment occur, the schedule has to be revised. Considering time consuming and shop floor nervousness, reactive repair of a disrupted schedule is a better alternative to total rescheduling. Most of the researchers have focused on heuristic based schedule re...
